Any artist can send in an application to become a member. It doesn’t matter where you’re from, if you had professional training or not, new or seasoned or which type of art you create. What we look for are artists with a story and passion for creating art.

HOW DO I MAKE SURE MY APPLICATION STANDS OUT?

By being your authentic self. We believe that art is more than just a pretty picture on the wall. Great art tells a story and has an artist with a story behind it. Try to tell your story and what moves you as an artist during your application.

HOW LONG DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS USUALLY TAKE?

It usually takes about 2 weeks to review your application.

I'M AN ARTIST FROM OUTSIDE EUROPE, CAN I JOIN?

Of course! We work with artists from all over the globe. Better yet, we love it when artist from the far corners of the world join. Adding different styles and cultures to our collection keeps it fresh and contemporary.

That said, if you live in a very remote area we might not be able to offer you our shipping services. So, if you decided to locate your studio halfway up mount Everest, please get in touch first to see if we can still offer all services.

You’re already thinking about leaving us?! Why!?!

But yes, of course you can. Once you’re set up you can cancel your membership at the end of each billing cycle or by simply switching off the renewal.

WHY DOES UP & COMING CHARGE A SERVICE FEE ON SALES?

Nothing is for free these days, so an online art sale has costs associated with it as well. The service fee is used to cover these costs. For example, payment processing fees, currency exchange fees, administrative duties and other costs like that.

FAQs - MONEY & TAX

HOW DO I GET PAID WHEN MY ART SELLS?

When a collector purchases your work we collect the payment on your behalf and safely store it on our escrow account. After the artwork is accepted by it’s new owner we will pay your revenue directly into your PayPal or bank account.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE BEFORE I RECEIVE MY SALES REVENUE?

From sale to “money in your pocket” usually takes between between 3 to 4 weeks.

I SELL A WORK OF ART FOR €1000 ON UP & COMING, WHAT'S MY REVENUE?

Let’s do the math, shall we? So, the collector pays €1000 for your work of art and it costs a €100 to ship it.

€1000 – €50 (5% SERVICE FEE) – €100 (SHIPPING) = €850

I DON'T PAY VAT IN MY COUNTRY, AM I EXEMPT FROM PAYING VAT ON MY MEMBERSHIP AS WELL?

No, I’m afraid you’re not. A lot of countries have VAT exemptions for artists, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have to pay VAT on services you acquire.

The ways you can get exempt from paying VAT are:

  1. Having a valid EU-VAT number (reverse charge)
  2. Residing outside the EU
DOES UP & COMING INCLUDE VAT IN THE SALES PRICE OF ART?

No, we don’t add / include VAT in the price of art. Or any taxes for that matter. Our service can be compared with a broker. We broker the deal and collect the payment on your behalf, but the sales agreement is between you and the collector.

So, if/how/when you have to pay tax on the sale is up to you. We always recommend contacting a local accountant / tax professional, because taxes, especially VAT, can become very complicated.

FAQs - SHIPPING

Yes, we can!

That said, shipping large, bulky and/or heavy items can become very expensive. For example, shipping a 150 cm x 200 cm stretched painting form Europe to the US can easily cost €1000. Almost! Our shipping service includes studio-to-collector shipping form anywhere in the world to anywhere in the world, but there are unfortunately some exceptions. Certain countries don’t allow foreign entities to ship on their citizens behalf and some area’s are to remote for our shipping services. If you have any doubts if the services is applicable to you, just get in touch and we’ll sort it out.

You can contact support via the form on the bottom of this page.

WHO PAYS FOR SHIPPING?

You do. We arrange the shipment on your behalf and pay for it upfront. The shipping cost is later subtracted from the pay-out of that sale.

HOW IS THE COST OF SHIPPING CALCULATED?

Based on the dimensions, weight of the package and the pick-up & delivery locations we request quotes with our preferred shipping partners to see who offers the best price to get your art from your studio to your new collector.
