A work of art by the Mexican artist Jose Cacho. ‘Amor Propio’, which translates to ‘Self Love’, is about love, loving others, but especially loving ourselves. In society it’s usually taught that love is complacent. Even that it’s selfish to think first about one’s own wellbeing. Jose sees a connection with the instructions we get on an airplane. When the hostesses explains, “in case of emergency or lack of oxygen, first put on the oxygen mask yourself, before you help the person next to you”. This metaphor explains the meaning of self-care, of self-love, of being able to see oneself first, and then others, including your husband or wife, sons or daughters. This work or art reflects on the issues of resignification of love and self love from a female perspective. It is no accident that the support of this image is a mirror.
‘Amor Propio’ is a limited edition work of art printed on 500 gsm museum quality cotton paper. It comes in two size, both limited to just 30 editions.
