THE HOLY MAN OF UMANANDA
‘The Holy Man of Umananda’ is a limited edition photograph by the fine art travel photographer & journalist Ben Mckechnie. This portrait is of a Hindu sadhu (holy man) whom Ben met on a tiny island in the Brahmaputra River in Assam, India.
“Before I ask someone’s permission to take their portrait, I keep my camera at my side or hidden from view for quite some time—the most important part is interacting; I hope the time this sadhu and I spent chatting and drinking tea first is palpable in his unguarded expression. Whenever I look at this image, I’m reminded to slow down, to make others feel at ease, and not to rush interactions to achieve my end goal.” — Ben Mckechnie
Camera & lens: Canon 5D Mark II and a Sigma Art 35mm f1.4 lens
