"Wandering the streets is what I love mostly. That candid shot of a human, in close-up or in a graphic frame combined with lights, shadow play, depth and emotion."

Ingrid’s photographic work focusses on fine art street photography. Her passion? Train stations, bridges, flights of stairs and setting a mood in early morning fog.

ABOUT INGRID CLAUWAERT.

Ingrid Clauwaert is a Belgian street photographer born in Venezuela. She studied violin, solfège and harmony at Bruges Conservatory and graduated at Gent Conservatory. She also obtained a license in psychology at the University of Gent. It’s fair to say that Ingrid is a multidisciplinary artist and overall talented individual. Besides being a photographer, she’s a violinist, composer and singer and was active in different styles of music, from classical music in orchestra’s to jazz, rock and house bands. She currently resides in The Netherlands, where she lives and works.

Her photographic philosophy can be captured with a single sentence by W.B. Yeats: “The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper”. This sentence is clearly visible in her work, capturing beauty in something as simple as a man waiting for a train. Ingrid finds inspiration in the works of photographers like Harry Callahan, Fan Ho, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Mark Fearnley, Henri Prestes, but also by enjoying the work of new-age photographers, experimenting with different styles and subjects.

INGRID CLAUWAERT'S PHOTOGRAPHY; STORIES WAITING TO BE TOLD.

“Wandering around the streets is what I love mostly. That candid shot of a human, in close-up or in a graphic frame combined with lights, shadow play, depth and emotion.”

At the age of 12, Ingrid started with an analogue Minolta camera. She learned to print her black and white photos the old fashioned way, using a dark room. Due to her musical career she temporarily paused her photographic journey, but in december 2018 she gave it new life by taking up nature photography, quickly switching to black and white street photography. Ingrid’s true passion: framing that single person in the perfect light, playing with lines, graphics, shadows.

As you may have noticed in some of her work, Ingrid has a big fascination for train stations and stairs. Her current focus is on colour street photography where she challenges herself to add extra depth to the subjects she photographs. She doesn’t just take a photo. She captures a story that is waiting to be told.

WHY A ‘CLAUWAERT’ MIGHT BE THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR YOU.

Ingrid photographic work is perfect for anyone who has a love for fine art street photography. Her lens is capable of capturing the essence of her subjects, bringing lifeless urban landscape to life, telling their stories.

The subtle tones and overall calmness of her depictions make for the fact that her photographs can be displayed in almost any room. That said, it is advisable to take a moment and sit down to choose the right piece and size. Although her works are shot in similar styles, every photograph has a different story to tell. It’s the key to find the one closest to your heart.
