ABOUT HEATHER BUCHANAN

Heather Buchanan is a Scottish photographer, writer and storyteller who now lives and breaths in Barcelona, Spain. It’s no surprise that Heather has become an artist. A huge influence throughout her life has been the fact that she grew up in an artistic family. This also motivated her to pursue an education in arts. In 2019 she graduated from the University of the Arts, LCC. Of course, with a graduate diploma in photography. But graduation was not the moment that Heather’s artistic journey began. That was already during her studies. In 2018 Heather Buchanan started calling herself an artist and never looked back. Her talent has not gone unnoticed. Beside having her own gallery on UP & COMING, she has been featured in other galleries as well. One of her proudest moments was the time she got asked to show her work during the exposition Ways of Seeing: Women & Photography in Scotland. And her photography has also been printed in ‘The Scotsman’, Scotland's leading news paper.

HEATHER BUCHANAN’S ART; WHERE FINE ARTS AND STORIES MEET

In her heart and soul, Heather is a photographer and a storyteller. You can spot both in her work. Heather’s art is about finding beauty and the story of the object she is capturing. Hence the phrase ‘capturing life where there is none’. She has a talent for seeing objects, ordinary to the untrained eye, and capturing them in such a way that their stories are revealed. In her own words: ‘I'm not strictly limited to one style of photography. I am a writer as well as a photographer and I want to share a story with my audience as well as finding beauty in the subject.’ Great examples of this combination of storytelling and beauty can be found in her photography series ‘The Heights of Macintosh’. At first sight, it’s an ordinary building in the South-East of London, United Kingdom, but when seen through the eye of Heather’s camera, becomes completely different. It does not just become a beauty to behold, but also more than a building. It becomes almost alive and ready to tell what it has seen throughout the years. Ready to tell its story.

WHY A “BUCHANAN” MIGHT BE THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR YOU

If you’re a fan of still life fine art photography you cannot go wrong when hanging a ‘Buchanan’ on the wall. There's something rather captivating about her work that draws you in. You can become immersed in the imagery. Sometimes it’s hard to pinpoint what. There is so much going on, but one thing is clear, it’s almost impossible to look away. Another rather great aspect of Heather’s work is the outspokenness, or better said intensity of the colours. The intense colours will look extraordinary when displayed in a prominent place. Even in a rather crowded setting Heather’s photos will still come to their rights. Also, it doesn’t matter if your home has modern or more classical decor. The almost modest scenes depicted in her work will look amazing wherever you display them.
