About Bianca Prettau.
Bianca Prettau, a Brussels based artist and architect, is well renowned for her mesmerizing semi-abstract urban landscapes.
Growing up in an artistic family, Bianca was destined to create art. But it is not just her artistic upbringing that influences Bianca’s art. Drawing techniques combined with the artistic aspect that is necessary in the traditional rules of descriptive geometry, particularly in architectural drawing, heavily influence her urban landscapes.
Bianca graduated from the University of Urban Planning and Architecture in 2000 with a Ph.D in Visual Studies in 2011. Her art has been exhibited worldwide, starting with solo shows in Florence, then in biennials (Florence, Rome) and art fairs like MAG Montreux, Carrousel du Louvre, ART Monaco, RIAF Rotterdam, listed in CANON Contemporary Art Network in New York.
Bianca Prettau’s paintings, building fine art from urban scenery.
Bianca’s semi-abstract paintings of urban scenes draw attention to messages of interest adjacent to art. Where the artistic endeavours are matched with the evocativeness of painting in order to convey discreet, but important messages. Namely, the face of today’s dramatic changes - from the ecosystem and environmental issues (FILON series) to the global pandemic (Bivouac small series) or to the landing on Mars (Marsrover series). Her art touches on topics such as urban daily life and social issues evident in the world we live in (URBAN ongoing collection).
Bianca’s cityscapes are incredibly complex, built from art and geometric calculations to form such captivating imagery. Her work is poetic, it encapsulates a certain magical aspect of the urban landscape, finding beauty even in the grey concrete vista.
Beginning her artistic career by using oil on canvas, she later turned to the contemporary mediums such as acrylics. But what’s notably unique about Bianca’s paintings are the techniques she uses. She doesn’t just use traditional brushes but creates her work using alternative tools more commonly used in technical drawings such as grading rulers and compases. As well as the particularly intricate method of conical perspective dimensional construction, which result in truly stunning, almost 3-dimensional, urban scenery.
WHY A ‘PRETTAU’ MIGHT BE RIGHT FOR YOU.
Bianca’s work transforms a living space. Due to the use of architectural techniques, combined with traditional artistic trades, her work is truly one of a kind. Bianca's creations carry the poetry of the modern metropolis into your home, adding depth, dimension and the message of urbanism to any room it’ll be displayed in.
Bianca has been exhibiting around the globe in group exhibitions as well as solo.
